The PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor program (Instructor Development Course, part II) is intended for professional divers who wish to acquire the PADI Instructor diploma, whether you are a PADI Assistant Instructor or an instructor from another organization. The focus of this program is the development of your skills as an educator in order to be able to teach any PADI course or program up till the Divemaster level.
During this course, you will review the main standards of PADI course for adults and children, the general standards and procedures, the PADI system, techniques for instruction and demonstrating, the industry and business of diving, legal liability, and professional risk. We will deal with different subjects: - a general survey of the diving industry - general standards and procedures - legal liability and risk management - the role of media and teaching procedures - PADI Scuba Diver and Open Water Diver courses - how to teach the Recreational Dive Planner - teaching children - the philosophy of PADI continuing education - business principles for dive instructors - Adventures in Diving program - Specialty PADI courses and the Master Scuba Diver program - PADI Rescue Diver course - PADI Divemaster course - diver retention programs
You will also lead at least two sessions on theory, two presentations in confined water, and one presentation in open water including two practical exercises. You will also participate in workshops on the PADI Advanced Open Water and Rescue Diver courses. You will be evaluated on your teaching presentations, your knowledge of diving theory, your diving techniques and physical skills.
Once you have obtained your OWSI diploma, you may decide to continue your training and become a Specialty Instructor in order to be able to teach specialty courses. Finally, under additional training conditions, you can continue your progress in the PADI system by acquiring the qualities of Master Scuba Diver Trainer, IDC Staff, then Master Instructor, and eventually Course Director.
Prerequisites:
- Being a PADI Assistant Instructor or equivalent - Being a PADI EFR Instructor or equivalent - Providing a medical certificate attesting to your capability to dive underwater dating from less than twelve months - Being a certified diver for at least six months, having accomplished 60 logged dives, and having experience with deep diving and navigational diving - Having a diploma in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, such as the EFR, dating no more than 24 months - For candidates coming from another organization besides PADI, showing proof of previous certifications as well as passing an exam on your life saving techniques.
Note: In order to pass the instructor exam, a candidate must have 100 logged dives.
